This male Superb Fairy-wren frequented the Tacking Point Lighthouse precinct in the summer of 2017. I enjoyed photographing him against out-of-focus backgrounds using a long telephoto lens. The image on the front of the card is a composite—the same bird in two different poses 11 minutes apart on the same group of twigs poking out of the top of a small Bankisa integrifolia. I had remained sitting on the ground at the same place for 30 minutes playing fairy-wren song through my smartphone and photographing the bird and his family group as they’d come and go, investigating the source of the foreigner’s voice.
