Spring Hill (Jolly Nose)

Queens Lake Nature Reserve NSW: A clump of paper daisies near the summit of Jolly Nose Hill is lit by off camera flash. This is a technique I favour for punching drama and interest into shaded foreground areas of landscape photographs.

To make the flowers the undisputed subject of the photograph, the background—showing Queens Lake and Dooragan with a cap of cloud—has been desaturated (converted to black and white).

The composition is aided by a wide angle lens and diagonal cloud vectors.
